Sun Joins OpenAJAX Alliance, Dojo Foundation

Sun Microsystems, known best for creating the Java programming language, has announced that it is joining the OpenAJAX Alliance, as well as the Dojo Foundation.
The company intends to "actively participate" in these two groups; it and they will "help ensure open standards for AJAX programming and increase interoperability across AJAX technologies."
The OpenAJAX Alliance is comprised of over 30 entities, including powerful corporations such as IBM and Zimbra. The organization's chief goal is broadening the adoption of AJAX.
Its methods involve providing interoperability, ensuring that AJAX solutions utilize open source technology and obey open source standards, and maintaining the Internet's open nature.
The Dojo Foundation applies similar concepts to a different matter as a non-profit organization for JavaScript programming. In addition to sponsoring this group, Sun will participate in the Dojo Toolkit Project.
This "open source JavaScript toolkit" attempts to make professional web development "faster and easier."
To do its part in the Toolkit Project, Sun "will be contributing AJAX widgets, helping with internationalization efforts and refining documentation." And Greg Murray, Sun's AJAX Architect, is one of those who will represent Sun as a member of the Dojo Foundation.
"We're looking forward to Sun's involvement in helping to mature the Toolkit," said Alex Russell, the current president of the Dojo Foundation. "Sun's support of the Dojo Foundation, inclusion of Rhino in the upcoming Java Platform Standard Edition 6 and recent release of Project Phobos underline a commitment to a better future for both users and developers."
Sun also announced a preview of its new tool to support the jMaki framework, dubbed NetBeans.
The product, "an open source JavaScript wrapper framework for the Java platform," is intended to "improve developer productivity." Sun launched two new AJAX web portals in the recent past, as well.
The company's addition to the OpenAJAX Alliance and the Dojo Foundation should provide an important boost to both groups.
